The rules for using this website

Short, readable, and written for the person who has to read it. These terms cover the website and the guides on it. A project you hire us for gets its own agreement.

Last updated October 11, 2026

The short version

The short version

Our guides are information, not advice. We research them properly and date them, but they cannot account for your organization. Check with a professional before you act on anything with legal or financial stakes.

Use our worksheets freely. Print them, share them inside your org, quote us with a link. Ask first before republishing a whole guide or using our material commercially.

This page is not your project contract. Published prices help you budget. The work itself gets a written agreement, and that agreement wins.

British Columbia law applies, and we would rather sort out a problem over email than anywhere else.

What these terms cover

These terms apply to cascadiasouth.com, the demo sites at demos.cascadiasouth.com, and everything published on them: the guides, the worksheets, the calculator, the case studies, and the service pages. By using this website you agree to them. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.

Cascadia South is a business operating in British Columbia, Canada, serving nonprofit organizations remotely. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Cascadia South, and “you” means anyone using this website.

These are terms for using a website. They are not the terms of a project. See Website terms and project agreements for how the two relate.

Website terms and project agreements

Nothing on this website is an offer that becomes a contract when you accept it. The prices we publish, including the flat fees on our service pages, are there so you can budget honestly before you talk to us. They describe our normal scope. They are not a binding quote for your organization until we have written one for you.

When you hire us, the work is governed by a separate written agreement covering scope, price, timeline, ownership, confidentiality, and how either side can end the engagement. Where that agreement and this page disagree, the agreement wins for everything to do with the project. This page continues to govern your use of the website itself.

Submitting the contact form does not create a contract or oblige either of us to anything. It starts a conversation. We may decline work, and you may walk away, for any reason and at no cost.

Our guides are information, not professional advice

This is the most important clause on the page, so we are putting it near the top instead of burying it.

We publish a lot of writing about Canadian law and compliance: PIPEDA and BC PIPA, the Accessible Canada Act and the Accessible BC Act, AODA, WCAG, grant eligibility, data residency. We research it against primary sources, we date it, and we correct it when we find it wrong. It is still general information, published for a wide audience, and it is not legal, accessibility, financial, tax, or professional advice about your organization.

We do not know your organization’s circumstances, and a general article cannot account for them. Reading this site does not make us your lawyer, your accountant, or your compliance advisor, and it does not create a professional relationship of any kind. Whether a particular law binds your organization depends on facts about your organization. Before you act on anything here in a way that carries legal or financial consequences, get advice from a qualified professional who knows your situation.

Where we give a specific factual claim, we try to name its source and the date we verified it, so you can check it yourself. Please do.

Keeping it current

Law changes, funding programs change, and technical standards are revised. A guide that was accurate when we published it can drift out of date without us noticing immediately.

We review our guides and update them, and we show a date so you can judge how fresh a page is. We do not warrant that every page is current, complete, or free of errors at the moment you read it. Always confirm deadlines, dollar figures, and eligibility rules against the funder or the regulator before you rely on them.

If you find something on this site that is wrong, tell us at hello@cascadiasouth.com. We will check it and fix it. We would rather be corrected than be confidently wrong in public.

Our content, and what you can do with it

Unless we say otherwise, everything on this site is owned by us or used with permission: text, photographs, illustrations, the logo, the name Cascadia South, the design, and the code behind it. Canadian and international copyright and trademark law apply.

You may, without asking us:

  • Read, print, and save pages for your own use
  • Share a link to any page anywhere you like, including in a board package or a funding application
  • Quote a reasonable extract in your own work, with credit and a link back
  • Download, print, fill in, and circulate our worksheets and calculators inside your organization. They are published to be used, and using them costs nothing and obliges you to nothing.

Please ask first before you: republish a guide in full, reproduce our material in something you sell or charge for, or use our name or logo in a way that implies we endorse you. The answer to a reasonable request from a nonprofit is usually yes.

What you send us

You keep ownership of anything you send us through this website. By sending it, you give us permission to use it for the purpose you sent it for, which is normally so we can reply to you or prepare a quote. How we handle the personal information in it is set out in our privacy policy.

Please do not send confidential client records, donor databases, health information, or anything else sensitive through the contact form. It is a web form, not a secure transfer channel, and it is processed outside Canada. If you need to get sensitive material to us for a project, ask and we will set up an appropriate way to do it.

You confirm that anything you send us is yours to send and does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

What you may not do

Do not use this website to:

  • Break the law, or help anyone else break it
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its host, or any connected system
  • Introduce malware, or interfere with the site’s normal operation
  • Scrape or harvest the site at a volume that degrades it for other people
  • Submit the contact form for spam, bulk solicitation, or misrepresentation of who you are
  • Copy the site’s design or content wholesale to pass off as your own

We may block access to anyone doing these things. Given the kind of work we do, we will also report serious attacks to the appropriate authorities.

The demo sites

The sites at demos.cascadiasouth.com are examples we built to show what our work looks like. The organizations, people, programs, and numbers in them are illustrative unless a page says otherwise, and they are not real organizations or real client data. Do not treat anything on a demo site as a factual statement about a real group, and do not rely on demo content for any purpose.

Availability, and the site as it is

Fast, accessible websites are what we sell, so we hold this one to the same standard. We build it to WCAG 2.2 Level AA and say so on our accessibility statement, which also tells you how to report a barrier.

Even so, this website is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, and we may change, suspend, or remove any part of it without notice. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement in relation to your use of the website.

None of this affects the commitments we make in a signed project agreement, which are real obligations and are not disclaimed here.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by British Columbia law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from your use of this website, including lost profits, lost funding, lost data, or business interruption, even if we were told such loss was possible.

Our total liability for any claim connected to your use of this website is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for access to the website, which is nothing, or one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100). Liability arising from a paid engagement is dealt with in that project’s own agreement, not here.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for fraud, for fraudulent misrepresentation, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you are a consumer, nothing here removes rights you have under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (British Columbia) or other applicable consumer protection law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada that apply in it, without regard to conflict of laws rules.

The courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or from your use of this website, and you agree to that jurisdiction. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

Before anyone goes near a court, email us. Almost everything is solvable by two people talking about it, and that is how we would prefer to handle it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as our services or the law change. The current version always lives at this address, with the date it took effect at the top. Continuing to use the site after we post a change means you accept the updated terms. This version takes effect on October 11, 2026 and replaces any earlier version.
